The Australian Beef Sustainability Framework recently released its 2025 Materiality Assessment, highlighting the key issues that industry must prioritise to remain globally competitive, credible and resilient.
Thirteen topics were identified as highly material, including animal welfare, biosecurity, greenhouse gas emissions, climate resilience, deforestation, traceability, food safety, workplace health and safety, and rural community contribution. The assessment signals a clear direction for the years ahead: sustainability performance will increasingly determine market access, investor confidence and social licence. For producers, processors and industry partners, this means stronger emphasis on data collection, traceability systems, and measurable improvements in environmental and animal welfare outcomes.
