The Farming For The Future (FFTF) program, established by the Macdoch Foundation in 2021, was specifically designed to address the intertwined challenges of environmental sustainability and agricultural productivity, with a strong focus on actionable insights for farmers. This initiative represents one of the most significant global data collection efforts to date for detailed farm natural capital, business data, and production data.
During the process of research, FFTF has developed a comprehensive dataset from 113 farms that demonstrate it is possible to quantify the relationship between natural capital and business performance. The program is now using this dataset to build and refine a natural capital benchmarking toolset, and is working with banks and finance to translate the evidence into decision-making tools. More info can be found in their latest publication Livestock pilot findings demonstrate natural capital boosts production, profit and resilience.
In late 2024, Orange Compass was engaged to evaluate the impacts of the FFTF program (Phases 1 & 2 from 2021-2025) in order to support strategic planning for the future. The results of this evaluation have now been published.
